Bali Turtle Island at a Glance

At first, Turtle Island was the habitat of the green turtle to lay eggs, and it was still effortless to find.

But since the 1990s, on the island of Bali, sea turtles have now become at risk of going extinct.

This is because, at that time, turtles were still often hunted for consumption and in Hindu religious rituals.

After the ban on turtle hunting, fishermen, especially in the Tanjung Benoa area, took the initiative to make Turtle Island a turtle conservation area.

Turtle Island is not only a place where turtles lay their eggs, but it is also a place where turtles caught in fishing nets can be rehabilitated and saved.

To protect their natural habitat, Turtle Island has treated and sent back into the sea a lot of turtles up until now.
